Moving On
Despite the American-made B9 Tribeca not proving quite as sporty as many at the European launch in Venice had hoped, these technologies fit in well with current SUV thinking, so must have contributed to lower development costs that have resulted in pricing that ranges from £28,995 to £33,995 and significantly undercuts key rivals such as the BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and Nissan Murano. Compared with these models, the B9 Tribeca - B9 in Subaru speak standing for big car and Tribeca emphasising the premium aspect as it's an up-market area of New York - feels agile and compact, despite being able to boast a spacious interior with a third row of seats being the main attraction of the highest priced version. Styling is reasonably distinctive, something that's not easy to achieve in an SUV. Viewed from the front, the Subaru lineage is at its most obvious with the pushed-forward centre grille positioned between full-width winged air inlets. Helping to keen the centre of gravity low and so enhancing handling is the "flat" six-cylinder three-litre 242bhp engine from the Legacy Spec.B, and this has allowed the Subaru designers to swing the bonnet line steeply down to the front bumper.
From the prominent headlights, the shoulder line rises along the sides to a rear window that sits surprisingly high, resulting in a rather blunt look to the tail. From inside, however, the view to the rear is not restricted.
