When the new Daewoo Nubira estate arrives on the UK market in December, it will be with a 109bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine and a price likely to be under £11,000.

A 122bhp 1.8-litre petrol model will be available in 2005, but buyers will have to wait until the following year before there's a turbo diesel. That power unit will be built at Daewoo's new diesel engine factory in Korea, which isn't due to start production until March 2006, with first deliveries scheduled for several months later.

Other GM news at the Daewoo launch was that Vauxhall has quite modest ambitions for the new Tigra two-seater. It hopes to sell something like 1900 between the September launch and the end of December, and 5000 in a full year. Sales of the original Tigra were higher than that, reaching almost 40,000 by the end of its six-year production run.
