Rolls-Royce Wins
Architecture Award

(30 Oct 04)

It may have lost its chairman Karl-Heinz Kalbfell to Alfa Romeo, but Rolls-Royce has been moderately cheered by the fact that its very carefully set-out factory and headquarters in the Goodwood estate in Sussex have gained the company a regional award from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Designed by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, the firm also responsible for the spectacular Eden Project in Cornwall, the Goodwood facility is certainly away out of the usual run of factory complexes.

Partly below ground level, the building is famous for its specially planted "living roof", and the grounds are landscaped with more than 400,000 trees and shrubs.
