Our Annoying Habits

(Wed 15 Feb 06)

As part of its Road Sense 2006 campaign, online car hire company carrentals.co.uk has undertaken a survey of nearly 1000 drivers to discover what annoys women about men's driving habits, and vice versa. Talking on mobile phones and pulling out without looking are near the top in each case - in fact they are the number one and two female sins according to men, but they fall to two and three among the men according to the women, who are more irritated by driving close to the vehicle in front.

There are some odd similarities and contradictions in the two lists. Braking too fiercely and an inability to read maps are numbers seven and ten on both, but the fourth complaint about women is that they drive too slowly and the eighth is that they drive too fast. These positions are exactly reversed in the list of what women don't like about men's driving.

This could all become rather confusing, but Andrew Stevens, Managing Director of carrentals, sums it up very well. "While there are some strong differences between the sexes," he says, "there are also some similarities, which should make us all consider taking more care over the way we drive on the roads."
