The weekend of July 1-2 sees one of the world's most exciting saloon car race series come to Brands Hatch race circuit in Kent. Cars competing in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) look vaguely like their production counterparts, but they use exceptionally advanced chassis and 500bhp V8 engines.

Some very big names can be found on the entry lists. Regular competitors this year include Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and seven-times Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen. It has even attracted former F1 World Champion Damon Hill, who will test an AMG Mercedes-Benz C-Class at Brands Hatch later this week.

The two British drivers taking part in the DTM this year are Jamie Green - currently lying fourth equal in the points table alongside Hakkinen and Frentzen - and Susie Stoddart, only the second female DTM driver to take part in the series after Ellen Lohr competed with great success a few years ago.
