Impreza's US Safety Award

(Mon 08 May 06)

The Subaru Impreza has won an award from the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety in the US. The Institute rates cars on their performance in front, side and rear crash tests, and describes them as Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor. The Impreza was described as Good, and was awarded the Gold Standard in the Top Safety Picks 2006 list for Small Cars (yes, that's what an Impreza is over there).

The award recognised improvements have made to the Impreza for the 2006 model year, including a reinforced pillar behind the rear passenger doors and upgraded side airbags.

Subaru has been doing rather well in American safety tests recently. As reported previously, the US-built B9 Tribeca scored a maximum five stars for front and side crash protection in tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while last year the Legacy Outback achieved a similar result in an American NCAP survey.
