The award recognised improvements have made to the Impreza for the 2006 model year, including a reinforced pillar behind the rear passenger doors and upgraded side airbags. Subaru has been doing rather well in American safety tests recently. As reported previously, the US-built B9 Tribeca scored a maximum five stars for front and side crash protection in tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while last year the Legacy Outback achieved a similar result in an American NCAP survey.
