(Fri 03 Nov 06) Suzuki has developed a new fuel cell vehicle and is assessing customer interest before deciding whether to put it into production. But it's not quite what you might think.
The MIO is in fact a powered wheelchair (Suzuki being a major producer of these things). It fuel tank holds four litres of methanol, which is used as an energy source to generate hydrogen and, another stage down the line, electricity. The MIO's range is around 25 miles. There are several problems about scaling up this technology to a full-sized car, but thanks to MIO Suzuki at least has to be considered as a player in the fuel cell game.
