Toyota Celica owner Steve Holloway from Preston is the first winner of BP Ultimate's Love Your Car Awards. The competition was set up to celebrate the motorists who display unusual amounts of care for their vehicles.

"Drivers across the UK have been telling us how they go that extra mile to show their cars affection," says BP Ultimate Market Specialist Allyson Hunter. "Everything from not allowing their own children in the car, or tucking their vehicles up at night with a teddy bear, to putting a cleaner fuel in their car or religiously washing it every day of the week.

"We had some pretty amazing entries, but the affection and attention Steve shows his car day-to-day really stood out. We think we've found someone who cares as much about their car as we do about making premium fuel."

Steve claims he has products for looking after his car than his wife does for her make-up. "To be crowned the UK’s Greatest Car Lover is an honour," he says, "Move over Jeremy Clarkson!

"My car is my pride and joy. I don’t like other cars, animals, leaves, people or any other objects coming near Celica that might stop it being gleaming, bright and perfect. If I think Celica is going to be left somewhere unsafe, I often leave it at home and get the bus instead.

"When it comes to cleaning it, I cannot just wash my car - it has to be rinsed, shampooed, rinsed, chamois dry, polished, hovered and leather cleaned. I spend more on my car than I spend on myself. I love it."
