Car Journalist On Foot For Charity

(Thu 21 Sep 06)

This isn't something you hear of very often - a motoring writer running for ten kilometres when he could easily have taken a car instead. The man who is turning accepted practice on his head is Colin Goodwin, who has "been volunteered" to take part in a 10k run at Hampton Court to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Colin Goodwin.

It may take some time. "The only exercise I've had in the past 20 years is climbing over Armco at racetracks and bump starting the odd car," he says.

But Goodwin is dedicated to the cause for personal reasons. "This summer several close friends have started the battle against breast cancer. And they're only in their mid thirties. Raising money for research doesn't just help those fighting today, but is an investment for the future for all of us.

"Colleagues in the press have already shown enormous generosity but every extra pound helps."

If you want to contribute a few of those extra pounds, you can find details of how to do so at www.10ksponsorme.org/colingoodwin. The run itself takes place on October 1, but sponsorship is open until October 22, by which time Goodwin may just about be able to sit up and take a little light nourishment.
