| UK Car Production Down In August | ||
|
(Mon 25 Sep 06) The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reports that UK car production in August this year was 17.6% down on the 2005 figure. For the first eight months of the year, production is 8% less than it was for the same period in 2005. The drop is mostly down to a reduction in building cars for overseas markets, which nevertheless remains the principal activity - 71.4% of the cars built in the UK in August were subsequently shipped abroad. "While August car production was lower this year than in 2005, the car industry has been boosted by recent announcements from Nissan and BMW, both of which have made commitments to UK plant investment," says SMMT Chief Executive Christopher Macgowan.
