(Wed 18 Apr 07) Jeep is aiming squarely at the Land Rover Defender with its new Wrangler, which goes on sale in the UK next month.
Although still visibly based on the original 1941 Willys Jeep, the latest Wrangler is a big step forward from the current model. There are two versions - a two-door model and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited with a longer wheelbase - and they have new engines, a new chassis, a revised interior and refreshed body design. ESP and traction control are standard across the range. Most models use a 2.8-litre CRD turbo diesel engine, but the two-door is also available with a 3.8-litre petrol unit. Manual and automatic transmission are both available, and there are three trim levels - Sport and Sahara for the diesels and Rubicon for the petrol model. Prices start at £17,995 for the 2.8 CRD Sport manual and rise to £23,075 for the 2.8 CRD Unlimited Sahara automatic. The 3.8 Rubicon costs £22,580. |
