(Wed 29 Aug 07) An even more unbridled version of the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Roadster is available now.
Known as the Black Series, the car's 5.5-litre V8 engine has been uprated from 360bhp to 400bhp, and thanks to new lightweight components (including a fixed carbonfibre hardtop roof), 45kg has been taken off the kerbweight. The result is a 0-62mph time of just 4.5 seconds, and 0-124mph in 15.5 seconds - that's two seconds quicker than the standard SLK 55 AMG can manage. The speed limiter has also been removed, so the Black Series can now power on through 155mph to a maximum of 173mph. Both the brakes and the suspension are uprated to take into account the new performance, and the 18" wheels have been replaced by 19" items. The interior is sportier than normal (there are bucket-style seats, for example), but you can specify a leather interior as one of several options. Oh, and it's not necessarily black. You can have it in silver too, if you like.
The Black Series is available by special order from Mercedes-Benz dealers. It's priced at €92,500, which is about £68,000, though the actual conversion will be determined at the time of ordering. |
