(Fri 28 Dec 07) In our launch report of the new Mazda2 we said that the most impressive model was 1.4-litre turbo diesel, though it wasn't yet available in the UK.
Well, it will be in March 2008, which is when deliveries start, though dealers are taking orders now. The 67bhp engine gives a top speed of 101mph and a 0-62mph time of 15.5 seconds (though the car feels quicker than those numbers suggest) and combined fuel economy is 65.7mpg, equivalent to a tax-friendly CO2 rating of 114g/km. There are two models. The more basic TS costs £9499, while for £10,999 you get the TS2, which has a number of extras including alloy wheels (they're steel on the TS), heated and folding door mirrors, side and curtain airbags, two extra speakers (making four in all), leather steering wheel and gearknob and manual air-conditioning, which is a £500 option on the TS. Both models are in insurance Group 3, and metallic/mica paint is a £350 option in each case. |
