(Thu 09 Jan 07) The next-generation Chrysler Grand Voyager, which goes on sale in Europe early next year, has been revealed at the Detroit Show.
US customers will have a choice between the Chrysler Town and Country and the sportier Dodge Caravan. Europe gets just the Chrysler version, which will retain the Grand Voyager name. According to Chrysler President Tom LaSorda, this fifth-generation version of the large MPV includes no fewer than 35 new features, including swivelling second-row seats, a rear seat which can be folded by pressing one button, dual DVD systems so that passengers in the second and third rows can watch different programmes, a six-speed gearbox and a flexifuel capability for the 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine, which can run on an 85/15% ethanol/petrol mix. There are also 3.6- and four-litre petrol engines in the range. For Europe, the Grand Voyager will also be available with a 2.8-litre turbo diesel. US sales will start this autumn, while the European Grand Voyager will be launched early in 2008. One significant change is that, unlike the present model, it won't be built at Graz in Austria. That plant will now concentrate on producing the Chrysler 300C, the Jeep Commander and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. All new-model Grand Voyagers will be built in North America, either in St Louis, Missouri or in Ontario, Canada.
