(Wed 18 Jul 07) The fastest-ever production Porsche 911 will go on sale in the UK in November this year.
The GT2 uses a modified version of the 3.6-litre engine found in the 911 Turbo, but thanks to larger compressor wheels and a system for reducing the temperature of the fuel/air mixture in the intake manifold, it has a maximum power output 50bhp higher at 530bhp. Peak torque of 501lb/ft is produced from 2200-4500rpm. In a car weighing 1440kg, this has quite some effect. Porsche claims that the GT2 has a top speed of 204mph, and that it will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds. At the same time, greater efficiency means that it also has a combined fuel consumption figure of 22.6mpg.
A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, as is the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) system. Porsche Active Suspension Management and 19" alloy wheels are also included in the price. Oh, yes. The price. Porsche is asking £131,070. That doesn't include options, but it does include a vehicle tracking system, a Thatcham Category 5 approved security package and a Porsche Driving Experience course.
