(Mon 23 Jul 07) Work has started on the new Porsche Driving Experience Centre at Silverstone.
Once it has opened, the Centre will allow all new Porsche customers in the UK and Ireland to receive driving tuition and to experience the performance and safety systems of their cars. The facility includes 3.1km of track, which can be used to make one large handling circuit or four smaller layouts. There will be a split-surface wet braking facility, and a moveable metal plate in the road surface to simulate a sudden loss of traction. The Centre building will use heat extraction and recovery systems to reduce its power demands and environmental impact. It will also have display areas, a restaurant, a Human Performance Centre and a rooftop viewing platform. The opening is planned to take place some time next summer.
