(Mon 23 Jul 07) Musician and car enthusiast Jay Kay has won the top award at the Salon Privé event in London.
Several modern Maseratis were on display at the luxury supercar show held at the Hurlingham Club, but the highest honours went to Kay's classic A6 G54, which won the concours d'elegance award. Kay was presented with his award by Head Judge Alain de Cadenet and model Jodie Kidd. "I don't feel like I deserve this," he said later. "I didn't make it. Pietro Frua designed it and Maserati made it - I just drive the pretty girl!" During the course of the event, over £70,000 was pledged to nominated charities Tommy's, Dreamchasing, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Cancer Research UK. Organisers Andrew and David Bagley have stated that their intention with next year's much larger Salon Privé event is to raise more than £100,000.
