(Tue 06 Nov 07) A 520bhp - yes, that's right - Citroen C4 has won Rallycross Superprix at Croft race circuit in dramatic fashion.
The car's Swedish driver, Kenneth Hansen, arrived at Croft having narrowly missed out on winning his 14th European Rallycross title, but intent on defending the Superprix crowd he won in 2006. Things were going well until the last lap of the Final, when a rear tyre exploded and sent the Citroen into a massive high-speed spin. Fortunately, the car crossed the finish line (though at goodness knows what angle) during this process, allowing Hansen to win the event by a narrow margin from the equally bonkers Vauxhall Astra of Irishman Christopher Evans.
"It's always nice to do this event," said Hansen afterwards. "It's a very fast track and I'm very pleased to have defended the title. "It's hard going to be at the top and we had some bad luck over the weekend, but also some good luck in the final race with the tyre only going when we crossed the line."
