(Tue 02 Oct 07) The new petrol-electric hybrid luxury car from Lexus, the LS600h, is officially on sale now, though if you haven't already ordered one you'll have to wait for quite a while.
The powertrain consists of a five-litre V8 petrol engine and an electric motor, which together produce enough power to give the LS600h a 0-62mph time of 6.3 seconds while also managing 30.4mpg on the combined fuel economy cycle and producing a relatively subdued 219g/km of CO2. Prices start at £81,400 for the "basic" car and rise to £83,645 for the long-wheelbase LS600h L. Another long-wheelbase version, this time with the added Rear Seat Relaxation package, is the most expensive of them all at £88,000, but it's also proving to be the most popular. Lexus GB says that of the 230 cars ordered to date, over 60% are in this form. More details about the car can be found in David Ross's launch report.
