| Citroen Reveals C5 | ||

(Fri 19 Oct 07) Citroen's replacement for the current C5 will go on sale in the UK early next year. It's bigger than the existing car, and from first glance it's easy to see the resemblances to the yet larger C6 executive saloon.
Some of the C6's sense of luxury will almost certainly filter down to the new C5. Citroen has paid a lot of attention to soundproofing, and is also making two different suspension systems available. One is a relatively conventional set-up, while the other, more complex one is the Hydractive 3 Plus self-levelling arrangement designed to provide maximum ride comfort (though it also has a Sport mode if you want to shift the emphasis towards cornering ability). Citroen has been gaining some impressive ratings recently from the Euro NCAP crash test programme, and the new C5 is likely to continue the trend. Up to nine airbags are fitted, depending on the individual model, and in the event of a front-end impact the brake and clutch pedals retract into the footwell to help minimise injury to the driver's legs.
Available with both saloon and estate body styles, the C5 will be offered with two petrol engines (1.8 and 2.0) and four HDi turbo diesels, including the range-topping 208bhp V6. Prices and other details will be made available nearer the launch. |
