(Mon 10 Sep 07) PSA Peugeot Citroen is celebrating the manufacture of ten million HDi turbo diesel engines.
The HDi family was introduced in 1998. Improved efficiency thanks to the common-rail fuel supply technology has led to 40% lower carbon monoxide emissions, 50% fewer unburned hydrocarbons and a 60% reduction in the engine particulates compared with the previous-generation diesels. Partly because of this (though also partly because the group specialises in building small cars), PSA Peugeot Citroen has the lowest average CO2 emissions of any manufacturer in the French market, the 2006 figure being 140g/km. HDi diesels range from a 55bhp 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine to a 205bhp 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6. Thanks to a co-operation agreement with Ford Motor Company, some of them are also found in various Fords, Jaguars, Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Citroen Gallery |
