(Mon 07 Apr 08) Volkswagen has reworked the turbo diesel engine fitted to the Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI. This is the most popular Touareg among UK buyers, with 68% of all sales in this country, and in its updated form it produces a maximum of 237bhp, or 15bhp more than previously.
In conjunction with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox and 4Motion four-wheel drive, the new unit gives the Touareg a 0-62mpg time of 8.3 seconds, an improvement of nearly a full second. Fuel economy has improved, though, and the CO2 figure has dropped from 278g/km to 262g/km. The engine also has a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust, and complies with Euro 5 emissions legislation. Prices for the revised 3.0 TDI are £33,465, £36,865 and £39,665 for the standard, SE and Altitude models respectively. |
