(Fri 11 Apr 08) Carbonyte, the UK company which created the world's first eight-seater Ferrari based on a 360 Modena, has applied similar treatment to the smart fortwo.
Known as the smaaart, it's more than twice the length of a standard fortwo at 17 feet. Unlike the Ferrari, it won't carry eight passengers - instead it has a huge central storage space in the form of a 20:1 scale replica of a drinks can (yes, complete with ringpull). The original 600cc smart engine has been retained, but thanks to lightweight construction it can still push the car up to 80mph. The smaaart, currently the only one of its kind in the world, is available for hire, but if you want one for yourself Carbonyte will supply it for a projected cost of around £25,000. The company is also considering the possibility of a smaaart hearse. For more details visit www.carbonyte.co.uk. |
