Chrysler/Nissan Agreement

(Wed 16 Apr 08)

Chrysler and Nissan are to strengthen their already close relationship by building cars for each other.

Chrysler-Nissan.

Chrysler will build a large Nissan-designed pickup at its assembly plant in Mexico, and it will go on sale in 2011, but we're unlikely to hear much about that in the UK because it's intended largely for the North American market.

That's not the case with the "all-new, fuel-efficient small car" which Nissan will build for Chrysler in Japan. This one is set to appear in 2010, and it will be sold around the world, including in Europe.

Deals between the two manufacturers are increasingly common. In January this year, Nissan agreed to supply Chrysler with a car for limited distribution in South America, and Chrysler has been using transmissions made by Nissan affiliate JATCO since 2004.
