Queen's Awards For Land Rover

(Mon 21 Apr 08)

Land Rover has won two of this year's Queen's Awards for Enterprise in the International Trade and Innovation categories.

Land Rover Discovery 36.

The International Trade award is based on Land Rover's fast-growing export sales, which have risen by £1.3 billion to just under £4 billion in the space of three years. The Innovation award relates to the Terrain Response System, which appears in slightly different forms in all Land Rover products other than the Defender, and allows the driver to choose engine settings most appropriate for the road (or off-road) conditions.

"To win not one but two Queen's Awards is a considerable achievement and a testament to Land Rover's relevance and modernity in its 60th anniversary year," says Managing Director Phil Popham. "It demonstrates we are building and selling desirable and technically advanced cars around the world and generating significant wealth for Britain."

Other Queen's Award winners in the automotive sector were Haztec International Ltd (emergency services vehicle warning equipment), TRW Occupant Safety Systems, Wirth Research (engineering consultancy specialising in motorsport), Diamond Consulting Services Ltd (for the Idris vehicle detection system), online car-sharing organisation Liftshare.com and NMI Safety Systems, which creates ways of securing wheelchairs in coaches.
