Porsche has introduced a new model to the top of the Cayman range, and it's going to be pretty exclusive, since only 700 are going to be built.

The Cayman S Sport is the most powerful Cayman yet devised, though not by much. Maximum power from the 3.4-litre engine has been increased from the standard 295bhp to 303bhp, which won't greatly affect the performance figures. But the Sport also rides 10mm lower than normal, and the track has been widened by the same amount, so there should be a noticeable improvement in the Cayman's already impressive handling.

Porsche Active Suspension Management, bi-xenon headlights, leather seats, an uprated exhaust and the Sports Chrono Package are all included as standard, but most of the new car's appeal to customers is likely to be visual. In a reference to the 911 GT3 RS, the Sport is available in that car's orange or green colour schemes, with "Cayman S" appearing down the sides in black graphics.

If you don't like orange or green, and you're not fussed about the GT3 RS, you can choose instead from black, Guards Red, Speed Yellow, Carrera White or - at extra cost - Arctic Silver Metallic.

The Cayman S Sport goes on sale in the UK on September 13. The basic price is £49,980, which also includes a day on a Porsche Driving Experience course.
