(Fri 08 Aug 08) There's less than a month now until the UK introduction of the new Cadillac CTS luxury saloon, which goes on sale here on September 1.
As previously reported, there will be two versions from launch, powered by 208bhp 2.8-litre and 308bhp 3.6-litre V6 petrol engines and costing £26,995 and £32,995 respectively. Both are described as being in Sport Luxury specification, but the level of equipment isn't exactly the same. Standard equipment for the 3.6 - but not the 2.8 - includes paddle-shift controls for the six-speed automatic gearbox, self-levelling rear suspension, chrome finish alloy wheels, twin chrome-tipped exhaust tailpipes and voice activation for the comprehensive navigation and audio system. Optional extras are limited to a powered glass sunroof which overs 70% of the roof area, costing £1200, and Sapele Pommele wood trim on the instrument panel, door trims and centre console, which adds £495 to the price. This CTS is larger in all dimensions than the previous model, and Cadillac has also gone to great lengths to reduce interior sound levels as far as possible. In one respect the company went the opposite way, designing the exhaust so that it creates low-frequency sounds to counteract any less pleasing high-frequency noise that may work its way into the cabin. The biggest news will come next year, when Cadillac introduces a 247bhp 2.9-litre turbo diesel CTS which we expect to become the best seller in the range almost immediately. |
