| BMW 6-Series And X6 Revisions | ||

(Tue 12 Aug 08) Quite a lot to be getting through here. Let's start with the M6 Coupé, which is about to become available with a competition package designed to improve the driving experience (not that the driving experience wasn't pretty good already).
The package includes revised suspensions which reduces the ride height by 12mm at the front and 10mm at the rear. Wider alloy wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa System tyres, there's a new Variable M differential in the rear axle and the Dynamic Stability Control and ABS systems have been revised. Oh, and there's a new bonnet. The competition package costs £2180, bringing the price of the M6 up to £86,655. Non-M versions of the 6-Series get their own package, called Edition Sport. This one includes 19" alloy wheels, a sports exhaust, brushed aluminium interior trim and larger anti-roll bars (10% stiffer at the front, 30% at the rear) which should improve turn-in, among other things. Edition Sport prices start at £53,445 for the 630i Coupé and rise to £65,820 for the 650i Convertible. One more thing: BMW is also introducing a new flagship model to the X6 range. It's called the X6 xDrive50i, and its most attention-grabbing feature is a 408bhp twin-turbo V8 petrol engine which hauls the car from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and would give it a top speed of 155mph if the electronics didn't chime in at that point to spoil the fun. Combined fuel economy is 22.6mpg (though don't expect to reach 20mpg very often in real life) and the CO2 rating is 299g/km, which as BMW points out is better than some rival models can manage but still puts the car well into the highest VED tax bracket. The X6 xDrive50i goes on sale in November priced at £53,930. |
