(Mon 11 Feb 08) Honda has revealed the details of its new-generation Accord, which will be officially revealed at the Geneva Show.
It bears a close resemblance to the existing model, though it's quite a bit wider and slightly lower, with a sharper design. The big news as far as technology is concerned is the introduction of a new diesel engine, called the i-DTEC, to replace the current i-CTDi. i-DTEC is more powerful, at 148bhp, but with what Honda descibes as cleaner emissions. The 2.0 i-VTEC petrol engine is now more economical than before, while the 2.4 i-VTEC has had a power boost to 198bhp. All three engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard; the petrol units will be available with five-speed automatics from launch, while the diesel will get this as an option in early 2009. Honda promises that the new Accord will handle better than the old, with the BMW 3-Series as a benchmark. There's also the option of a Collision Mitigation Braking System which senses when an impact is about to happen, warns the driver of the situation, and if necessary applies the brakes to reduce the force of the crash if it does indeed take place. UK prices and specifications will be confirmed nearer the car's launch. Honda Gallery Previous: Renault Koleos Crossover Next: Chevrolet Reveals Epica Saloon |
