(Wed 20 Feb 08) Mazda is introducing nine estates and ten diesels to add to the petrol saloon and hatchback 6s it launched in the UK late last year, bringing the total line-up to 25 models.
The estate has a maximum load volume of 1751 litres, and boasts both a fold-flat seating system and an automatic luggage cover. Mazda reckons that buyers will prefer higher levels of equipment, so it's not making the estate available in the entry-level S trim. It will, however, be sold in TS, TS2, Sport and SL forms. SL stands for Sport Luxury, and Mazda is certainly piling on the equipment with this model: 18" alloy wheels, full leather seats (heated in the front), bi-xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors and a 240W eight-speaker Bose surround system audio system are all standard. The new two-litre turbo diesel engine joins the 1.8, 2.0 and 2.5 petrol units in the range. It produces 138bhp, which is enough for a top speed of 125mph and a 0-62mph time of 10.7 seconds. As with the petrol cars, fuel economy is better than it was in the previous 6; the official figure is up by 3.3mpg to 50.1mpg, while CO2 emissions have dropped from 165g/km to 149g/km, resulting in a drop from VED Band D to Band C (saving £35 a year in car tax and bringing BIK company car tax down from 23% to 19%). Mazda6 estate prices range from £17,330 for the entry-level 2.0 TS manual to £22,040 for the 2.0D SL. Diesels with the other body styles cost between £15,620 (2.0D S hatchback) and £21,320 (2.0D SL saloon). Mazda Gallery Previous: Volvo XC60 Revealed Next: New Peugeot 308s At Geneva |
