If the idea of a four-wheel drive Fabia with a powerful two-litre engine and a six-speed gearbox appeals to you, you'll be pleased to hear that Skoda is developing just such a machine.

And this isn't a concept - you'll be able to buy one once the car is fully developed. But it's only worth doing so if you intend to use it for rallying, because that's why Skoda has embarked on the project.

This Fabia is intended for use in the Super 2000 category. "This year we are planning to optimise and certify the vehicle so that we can use it on both national and international levels," says Dr Eckhard Scholz, head of Skoda's Technological Department. "Then we are also planning to offer the vehicle to private teams.

"Based on a customer service arrangement, further development work on the vehicle will be done in close cooperation with our importers worldwide."

No price has yet been announced, but it's certain to be much higher than that of any normal production Fabia.
