Right-hand drive versions of the 2008 model year Cadillac STS have gone on sale in the UK at prices starting from £33,995.

There is just one trim level, called Sport Luxury, and it's so comprehensive that Cadillac offers only two optional extras on top of the standard specification - metallic paint at £650 and a powered glass sunroof at £1050.

But there are two engines, and the £33,995 mentioned above refers to the 3.6-litre V6, which has been uprated to produce 311bhp. Top speed for this car is 149mph and the 0-62mph time is 6.9 seconds.

For £39,995, you can have the other STS, fitted with the wonderful 4.6-litre Northstar V8 engine which has appeared in an enormous number of Cadillacs over the years. Maximum power is only slightly higher than that of the V6, at 326bhp, but there's so much extra torque, produced at considerably lower revs, that the performance is considerably more urgent. The V8 can do the 0-62mph drag in 6.2 seconds, and only an electronic limiter prevents it exceeding 155mph.
