Lexus GS Changes

(Mon 14 Jan 08)

Lexus has given the GS range a thorough going-over, the most obvious change being the introduction of a new engine at the top of the range.

Lexus GS 12 - 2008 Model.

The previous GS 430 is no more - it's been replaced by the new GS 460, which as the name suggests has a 4.6-litre V8 engine producing a maximum of 342bhp. In conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this leads to a 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds, which is better than the less powerful car could manage. The GS 460 is also more economical, with combined fuel economy of 25.7mpg.

The entire range has had a mild styling revamp which includes a new chrome surround for the front grille, door mirrors with integrated indicators, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new doorhandles and a different design of wheel. Mechanically, there are very few changes, except that the shock absorbers and underbody aerodynamics have been reworked.

Adaptive Variable Suspension and Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management are now standard on all models, as is an input jack for connecting portable music players to the sound system.

Prices for existing (but revised) models now range from £33,100 for the GS 300 to £45,085 for the long-wheelbase hybrid GS 450h SE-L. The new GS 460 costs £50,500.
