Toyota's Future On Show

(Fri 04 Jul 08)

Two Toyotas which will go on sale in the UK next year are going on display at the British International Motor Show later this month.

Toyota iQ 02.

The odder of the pair is the iQ, a premium city car which is only three metres long but has a longer cabin than the Yaris and more shoulder room than the Auris, and has enough room inside for three adults and one child.

Full details have not yet been confirmed, but Toyota says that the iQ will have a choice of two petrol engines or one diesel under the tiny bonnet. Prices won't be announced for a while yet.

Toyota Urban Cruiser 04.

The other model which will be with us in 2009 is the Urban Cruiser which, like the iQ, made its world debut at this year's Geneva Show. The Urban Cruiser is a five-seater compact MPV, 300mm shorter than the RAV4, and Toyota is promising CO2 emissions of less than 140g/km, which would equate to combined fuel economy in the mid-50s mpg.

Toyota will also be displaying models from across its current UK range, including the recently-introduced Hilux Invincible 200 (the most powerful pickup on sale in this country with a maximum output of 197bhp), plus - assuming nothing untoward happens when it's driven up the hillclimb course at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next weekend - the aptly named Aygo Crazy.
