Fuel Cell Suzuki Ready For Test

(Mon 07 Jul 08)

Suzuki has been given permission by Japan's Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to test its latest fuel cell vehicle on public roads.

Suzuki SX4 09 - FCV.

The prototype, based on the SX4, is the fourth Suzuki of its type to have received this approval. The SX4-FCV has been developed in partnership with General Motors, which supplied the fuel cell; Suzuki itself created the tank which holds hydrogen at high pressure (more than 10,000 pounds per square inch) before it is used to generate electricity.

The SX4-FCV has a claimed top speed of 94mph and a possible range of over 150 miles. Results from the public-road test programme will lead to a series of decisions "aimed at future commercialisation".
