(Tue 15 Jul 08) The record for the highest price achieved at auction by a Jaguar was soundly beaten during the Bonhams event held at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The previous mark, set in 1999, was just over £1.7 million, but the 1955 Jaguar D-Type race car sold at Goodwood well and truly beat that when it was bought by a British enthusiast for £2,201,500. The D-Type, registered XKD 509, was the first customer car built by Jaguar, and it was sold on behalf of the Littlewood Football Pools family. It accounted for slightly more than a third of the total value of the auction, in which all 369 lots were sold. Other records achieved at the same event were £419,500 for a 1930 Invicta Scimitar and £19,550 for a 1967 ex-works Sunbeam Imp rally car. |
