Ford's Sporty Fiesta

(Wed 16 Jul 08)

Further to our previous news story about the new Fiesta, Ford has issued more details about the sportiest version, which makes its debut at the British International Motor Show at London's ExCel.

Ford Fiesta 64 - Zetec S.

The Zetec S - latest in a line of Fiestas with that name stretching back to 1999 - is available in two forms, the more interesting of which uses a 118bhp version of the new 1.6-litre Duratec Ti-VCT engine. This gives the car a top speed of 120mph and a 0-62mph time of 9.9 seconds, but it also uses fuel at a rate of 47.9mpg on the combined cycle and emits 139g/km of CO2, both these figures being improvements on those of the previous Zetec S, which was slower and less powerful.

If you want even better fuel economy, there's an 89bhp turbo diesel version of the Zetec S which manages 67.3mpg and has a CO2 rating of 110g/km. Whatever eventually happens to the Vehicle Excise Duty structure, that's going to be a cheap car to run.

Both models are noticeably different from other Fiestas thanks to 16" five-spoke alloy wheels, projector headlights, front foglights, a deeper than usual front bumper, side mouldings and a rear spoiler. Prices for these cars, and indeed the rest of the new Fiesta range, will be announced on July 22.
