(Tue 22 Jul 08) Cadillac is having a busy time of it at this week's British International Motor Show, displaying a new production car and two concepts.
The production car is the CTS "luxury sports saloon", which is making its world debut in right-hand drive form. UK sales of the CTS will start in September, with a choice of 2.8- and 3.6-litre V6 petrol engines, both with six-speed automatic transmission. A 2.9-litre V6 turbo diesel will join the range next year. There is no choice of trim level - it's Sport Luxury or nothing. Prices for the petrol cars have been set at £26,995 for the 2.8 and £32,995 for the 3.6.
Now, about those concepts. The first is a coupé version of the CTS which looks pretty much like the saloon from the front but radically different from the windscreen backwards. In fact the coupé concept has the same wheelbase as the standard car, but it's nearly two inches shorter - thanks to sharply curtailed overhangs - and about the same amount lower. No news yet on when anything like it may reach production.
The Provoq concept definitely won't be appearing at your local Cadillac dealership any time soon. It's an SUV crossover powered by the General Motors E-Flex propulsion system, which involves a hydrogen fuel cell, a lithium-ion battery and an electric motor. Don't expect to be able to buy one in the shops for a while yet. Cadillac Gallery Previous: New Camaro Revealed Next: Honda's Lightweight Sports Car |
