(Mon 28 Jul 08) The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club and the more recently-formed Jaguar XK Club are joining forces to mark the 60th anniversary of the first XK model (the dramatic and futuristic XK120) going into production.
The XK60 Diamond Celebrations will take place at Goodwood race circuit and nearby Cowdray Park on August 8-10. The event will be graced by the presences of Sir Stirling Moss and Murray Walker, and it will include - among many other things - exhibitions, track demonstrations, static displays, live music, a 1950s fashion show and an auction of Jaguar cars and automobilia held by Bonhams. "We are really excited to be organising this landmark event," says Philip Porter, co-founder of the Jaguar XK Club. "The XK is one of the automotive triumphs of the 20th-century: the immense success of the original car and its groundbreaking engine is demonstrated by the survival of the XK brand into the modern age." "The work that Philip Porter and his team have put into this series of events is nothing short of incredible," adds Geoff Cousins, Managing Director of Jaguar UK. "The XK in its various guises really does represent beautiful fast cars so it's fitting that owners from all over the world can come together to celebrate the remarkable impact that the XK has had not only on the automotive landscape but on wider popular culture."
