Front-Wheel Drive Hyundai Tucson

(Tue 29 Jul 08)

Hyundai has added three new models to the Tucson range for people who don't want to spend money on a four-wheel drive system they don't need.

Hyundai Tucson 12.

The new Tucsons are front-wheel drive only, and the entry-level model is the 2.0 Comfort, which has a 139bhp two-litre petrol engine and a five-speed manual gearbox, and costs £14,695. Top speed is 112mph, the 0-60mph time is 10.4 seconds and combined fuel economy is 35.3mpg.

If you prefer engines which run on diesel, there's a similar model with a 148bhp CRDi engine and manual transmission. This one comes in the Style specification, which includes climate control air-conditioning, a trip computer, cruise control, heated seats and door mirrors, rear parking sensors and an auto-dimming interior mirror, and it costs £16,695.

At the top of the front-wheel drive range comes the Premium, which also uses the diesel engine and is even better-equipped with leather upholstery, ESP, traction control, automatic headlights, a sunroof and electric folding door mirrors. It's priced at £18,695.

Regardless of the number of driven wheels, all Tucsons are being given a mild facelift for the 2009 model year. Changes include a new radiator grille, a revised rear number plate surround and redesigned instruments.
