(Wed 11 Jun 08) Not even the highest-spec model in the Fiat 500 range costs anything like £200,000 to buy new, but that's what someone has paid for the one you see here.
Of course, it's no ordinary 500. In fact it's one of four styled by artist Tracey Emin, and it was sold at a gala reception in the Royal Naval College in Greenwich to raise money for the ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) charity. ARK is made up of financial institutions and personal donors, and raises money for causes such as tackling HIV in Africa, child care in eastern Europe and inner-city education in the UK. "We were very pleased with how the car was received," says ARK's event executive Charlotte Locks-Moro. "The £200,000 it raised is not only an amazing amount of money for a car, but it was also a significant sum towards the total we raised for charity [£25 million]. We are absolutely delighted." |
