(Wed 11 Jun 08) SEAT has confirmed that prices of the new Ibiza will start at £8995 when the range goes on sale in the UK on July 16.
There are three trim levels, and SEAT has made the terminology more straightforward before - names like Reference and Stylance are now a thing of the past, which may come as something of a relief. Instead, the specifications on the new car are called S, SE and Sport, and these also largely indicate what engine a particular car has. The S comes with the excellent little 69bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, the SE gets the 84bhp 1.4-litre petrol and the Sport offers the choice of either the SE engine or a 104bhp 1.6. No diesels yet. The entry-level S is the only car in the range not to be fitted with air-conditioning as standard, but if you want that you can have the S A/C, which is exactly the same car except that it does have aircon and costs £9495. Top price is £11,295 for the 1.6 Sport, and that's also the only car which comes into VED Band D. The others are in Band C, though the lower CO2 rating of the 1.2 means that it will have a £10 advantage when the new car tax system comes into operation next year. Insurance ranges from Group 2 to Group 5. All the models being introduced in July have five doors. The three-door SportCoupé, mentioned in a previous news story, will follow later.
