Audi Wins Le Mans

(Mon 16 Jun 08)

Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and Dindo Capello have won this year's Le Mans 24 Hour race for Audi after a fascinating battle with the Peugeot team in mixed weather conditions.

Audi R10 05 - Le Mans 2008.

This was McNish's first Le Mans win for Audi, and the second in his career - he won with Porsche ten years ago. Audi's record is even more impressive: the German company has taken victory eight times in ten starts, and three times in consecutive years with the diesel-fuelled R10 TDI. Other Audis finished fourth and 6th.

Peugeot, whose 908 HDi FAP also runs on diesel, came home second, third and fifth. The fifth-placed car staged a remarkable comeback, having fallen to 31st on Saturday evening.

Aston Martin repeated its 2007 success as David Brabham, Antonia Garcia and Darren Turner finished first in the GT1 class. Another works Aston finished fourth in the same category, while a Charouz Racing System prototype using the same engine took the LMP1 class.
