| Petrol For Citroen C-Crosser | ||

(Mon 30 Jun 08) Until now, the only engine available for the Mitsubishi Outlander-based Citroen C-Crosser has been a 2.2-litre HDi turbo diesel, but Citroen has just announced that it will be offering a petrol-fuelled alternative.
The new engine is Mitsubishi's 170bhp 2.4-litre petrol unit, and it's being made available with either a five-speed manual gearbox (in the entry-level VTR) or a continuously variable transmission (in the better-equipped VTR+ and Exclusive). The five-seat VTR manual costs £19,995 and is therefore not only by far the cheapest C-Crosser yet but also substantially cheaper than the petrol Outlander, which is available only in the high-specification Elegance trim level. It has a top speed of 124mph, a 0-62mph time of 9.2 seconds and combined fuel economy of 30.1mpg. The CVT-equipped £22,495 VTR+ and £25,195 Exclusive, both of which have seven seats, are slightly slower (121mph, 10.4 seconds) but more economical (30.4mpg). All versions have CO2 ratings just below the 226g/km which would put them into Band L of the new VED structure to be introduced next April, so they will be more than £100 cheaper to tax annually than cars which emit fractionally more CO2. As regular readers will be aware, the C-Crosser and Outlander are very close relatives of the Peugeot 4007, but each manufacturer makes its own decisions about what to offer its customers. Peugeot doesn't believe that there's enough of a market in the UK for petrol SUVs, so the 4007 will remain diesel-only for the foreseeable future. |
