Land Rover LRX Returns

(Mon 03 Mar 08)

Land Rover will be presenting a second version of its LRX "cross-coupé concept at the Geneva Show, following on from its successful debut at Detroit in January (see previous news story).

Land Rover LRX Concept 03.

Planned as a small but luxurious car with some off-road potential, the LRX is claimed to have a possible combined fuel consumption figure of around 60mpg and CO2 emissions of 120g/km - highly tax-friendly figures which are way beyond anything Land Rover has achieved in the past.

They would be possible only with the proposed hybrid system consisting of a two-litre turbo diesel engine and an electric motor. Land Rover is now being more specific on the subject, saying that the hybrid is one of a "range of powertrains" which might be fitted to the LRX.

Production plans have still not been confirmed; the Geneva LRX and the original version shown at Detroit will both be used to gauge public, dealer and media response. But Land Rover Managing Director Phil Popham says the company was "hugely excited" by the reaction to the car in the US.
