(Wed 05 Mar 08) Kia is showing three concept versions of a forthcoming production car and two low CO2 cee'd models at the Geneva Show.
The three concepts are the Soul Diva, the Soul Burner and the Soul Searcher, but they're all differently styled versions of the same thing. The Diva has been conceived as a female-friendly fashion accessory, the Burner (pictured) is described as the "bad boy" of the line-up with its dragon tattoo-style graphics, while the Searcher is more peaceful, "with a focus on achieving personal inner peace," as Kia puts it, "and creating a calm cocoon for the occupants". Put together, the three cars act as a preview for a new production model which is due to make its debut at the Paris Show in September this year. The two cee'ds are described as "green performance cars", but the big news is their fuel economy (over 70mpg on the combined cycle) and low CO2 emissions, which are quoted as 104g/km for the three-door and 106g/km for the five-door.
Although they share the name eco_cee'd, Kia does not seem to be intending to create new models in the way that other manufacturers have done recently. Instead, the technological features which make these economy and emissions figures possible will be gradually transferred to production cee'ds from December this year.
