| Mazda2 Is World Car Of The Year | ||
|
(Fri 21 Mar 08) The Mazda2 has been announced as World Car of the Year after the votes from 47 jurors in 24 countries were counted.
The Mazda is by far the smallest car to have won the title in its short history. Previous winners were the Audi A6 in 2005, the BMW 3-Series in 2006 and the Lexus LS 460 last year. In their official citation, the WCOTY jurors said that "this fresh Mazda compact makes the first-generation one-box-ish Mazda2 fade into the mists of time even more so. The new version is exactly that - completely new; particularly on the outside. Consumers will be drawn to the new Mazda compact because of its very appealing looks and high levels of standard equipment for the price." 39 cars were originally chosen as candidates for the award. The others in the final three were the Ford Mondeo and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. More Mazda2 Photos Previous: Audi R8's Double World Award Next: BMW World Green Car Award |
