(Wed 26 Mar 08) SEAT has announced the arrival of a special-edition León called the FR550. The number doesn't refer to the power output (it would be quite something if it did) but to the number of cars that are being made available to UK customers.
Based on the very popular León FR, the 550 has extra equipment in the form of extra-supportive front seats with integrated headrests, 18" Draco alloy wheels, a USB connection for your iPod or MP3 player and unique tailgate badging. There six choices of exterior colour: Citrus (as pictured above), Emoción Red, Candy White, Black Magic and two shades of grey. In all other respects the FR550 is identical to the 168bhp two-litre turbo diesel FR TDI - and that's very appropriate, since this Sunday (March 30), SEAT will become the first manufacturer ever to race a diesel-fuelled car in the British Touring Car Championship. The FR550 costs £18,045 - just £400 more than the standard FR TDI - and is available to order from SEAT dealers now.
