| Peugeot And Citroen SUVs Go European | ||

(Fri 28 Mar 08) Although they have French badges, the Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007 SUVs have - apart from their 2.2-litre turbo diesel engines - always been built in Japan, since they are effectively the same thing as the Mitsubishi Outlander.
The situation became even stranger when Mitsubishi announced it was going to start building Outlanders at its NedCar factory in the Netherlands. That meant that the Japanese cars would be built in Europe, while the European ones would be built in Japan. From January next year, however, things will become more sensible, since PSA Peugeot Citroen has arranged that its European-market vehicles will be built at NedCar too. It's claimed that this will allow PSA "to respond more quickly to changes in European SUV demand", but the fact that many thousands of miles of transportation will become unneccessary is no doubt a major factor too.
