Renault's new Koleos SUV/MPV crossover goes on sale in the UK on July 4 at prices starting from £17,995.

There are three different trim levels - Dynamique, Dynamique S and Privilège - and in addition to the increasing amounts of equipment supplied as standard there are also different engine/transmission options. So, the Dynamique uses the two-litre dCi 150 turbo diesel engine and six-speed manual gearbox, and you get the choice of front- or part-time four-wheel drive.

The Dynamique S is the same, except that you can also have a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Privilège comes only with four-wheel drive, and it's also the only Koleos available from launch with the more powerful dCi 175 version of the diesel engine.

Privilège models are the most expensive by some way on account of it being by far the best-equipped. Standard features include full leather heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, cornering lights, satellite navigation, a dimming interior mirror and the first Bose audio system ever to be fitted to a Renault.

Prices range from £17,995 for the two-wheel drive Dynamique to £24,695 for the Privilège dCi 175. Renault has therefore made the Koleos significantly cheaper than Alliance partner Nissan's X-Trail, which despite its very different looks is mechanically almost identical.
